I woke up this morning while it was still dark. Groggy, I headed towards the bedroom door. Right before I stepped on Cat she alerted me to her presence with a loud meow but made no effort to move.
This is slightly odd Cat behavior--she was not sitting on a piece of furniture, but the floor, and not in a normal spot. Though Cat not moving and making me squeeze past her is normal, she likes to follow me in the mornings tripping an biting me until I get her food.
When I had been up for a few minutes, I realized my morning had been far less perilous than normal and went to find her.
She was still lying in the same place.
My first though was that she had had a stroke and couldn't move. As a ran my hand over her, she purred and seemed to be able to move though she wasn't getting up.
Finally, I picked her up to set her on her feet. This incited a row of complaints from Cat, whose front right paw was firmly attached to the shag carpeting. I set her down and she plopped back down and starting purring again.
Her contentment was brief. As I tried to discern how she was stuck and how I was going to get her un-stuck, she helped by chomping on my hand. Somehow she had managed to get a loop of the carpeting over her claw cover and around the base of her nail.
I went to fetch the scissors. When I returned, scissors in hand, Cat went into a hissing fit. Clearly, she was unsure as to what would be cut off.
I went back to fetch Discord's welding gloves. Using my gloved left hand as a restraint/chew toy, I was able to free Cat with one little snip of the carpet loop.
Cat was, characteristically ungrateful and returned immediately to her morning antics.
Still, I can't help but wonder if she''ll show the carpet a little more respect now that she realizes it can fight back.
